Spur of the moment stuff

A sketch I made in October, looking back down the road towards the sea (Cardigan Bay).

The gate to our track is just behind and on the left.  We're going there on Friday for my sister's wedding, and I realised that apart from 100 invitations, I hadn't "made" her anything as a present.

I found the sketch on Saturday night, sat up in bed with a notebook and pencil and decided how to embroider it, and started and finished it in three hours yesterday evening (trying to blot out the memory of the whippet racing humilitation).

I'm quite pleased with it.
It needs stretching and lacing over card (boring boring) and I need to persuade someone to frame it for me by the end of Thursday...a minor detail.

A champion is born

All muzzled up, ready to go.

In the zone...focus....focus....

Whereupon it all fell apart.  He wasn't watching the lure, he was watching the other dogs.  When the flag went and they were released, he set off looking for a jolly good game of running in circles.  When he realised they'd all run off up the track, he set off at a sprint to catch them....by which time they'd all disappeared over the brow of the hill.  So he ran over to Mum to ask what to do, and Mum said to go back to Dad, so he did.  Then we handed back the muzzle and took him off for a cup of tea and decided the whippet's racing career had probably started and finished with that one race.

But he did win 6th in Junior Handler, with The Girl.  And got a rosette.

Honky seaweed

Inspired by Gina Ferrari I sketched some seaweed with a skewer and black ink, then used Kohinoor dyes over the top.  I'm pretty chuffed.  Thanks Gina!

My sketchbook is a bit stinky from having seaweed pressed between the pages for over a week, but I'm glad I brought it home!

End of the Earth

Hey ho.  Another year, another 500 photos of the same place - but this year with added whippet.

bye bye Brittany

Home again home again jiggedy jig - salty and weatherbeaten, with the Brittany tan (brown face, arms, shins and feet, alabaster torso), new stashes of sea shells, and sandy breadcrumby upholstery in the car - with added whippet hair this year.
We all miss the beach, particularly the whippet, who discovered a latent talent for crab hunting.  (Unfortunately their legs fall off if you run with them hanging out of your mouth.  Apparently).
